Today Chalk Farm is an urban district of North West London close to Camden Town, but was previously known as the hamlet of Chalcot. It is hard to believe that the hamlet was once just green pastures with a green hill, and had its own race meeting. The first recorded meeting took place on Tuesday 27th August 1850. Within 2 months a second, and final, two day meeting was held on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th October 1850 when the last race of the meeting, the Consolation Stakes, was won by New Forest Doe owned by Mr Mason. |
